DESIR - EQUIPEX

           The DESIR-EQUIPEX Program

In December 2011, the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research allocated 9 M€ to the DESIR-EQUIPEX program within the “http://investissement-avenir.gouvernement.fr/” call. 8 M€ will be devoted from July 2012 to December 2017 to the construction of the DESIR beam transport tunnels, to an experimental hall of about 900 m2 built on top of a basement of the same size, and to the implementation of a beam line between the S3 Low-energy branch facility (S3-LEB) and the DESIR General Purpose Ion Buncher and cooler (GPIB) inside the DESIR hall. 1 M€ will be devoted from October 2017 to December 2019 to the operation of the facility.

Management

The DESIR-EQUIPEX program objectives were defined in March 2013 in an agreement signed by GANIL, coordinating the program, and the French National Research Agency (ANR). The program involves six French laboratories belonging to the CNRS-IN2P3 and the CEA-DSM institutes:

-   CEN Bordeaux-Gradignan, CNRS-IN2P3 and University of Bordeaux 1

Scientific coordinator: B. Blank

-   GANIL, CNRS-IN2P3/CEA-DSM

Scientific coordinator: J.-C. Thomas

-   CIMAP, CEA, CNRS, ENSICAEN and University of Caen Basse-Normandie

Scientific coordinator: E. Balanzat

-   IPHC Strasbourg, CNRS-IN2P3 and University of Strasbourg

Scientific coordinator: Ph. Dessagne

-   IPN Orsay,   CNRS-IN2P3 and University of Paris-Sud 11

Scientific coordinator: L. Perrot

-   LPC Caen, CNRS-IN2P3, ENSICAEN and University of Caen Basse-Normandie

Scientific coordinator: X. Fléchard

The DESIR-EQUIPEX program will be managed within the framework of a consortium agreement signed by the six partners of the program. The connexion of the program to the DESIR Collaboration Council and to the DESIR Steering committee will be defined in the DEsir Collaboration Agreement (DECA), signed in January 2012. Figure 1 shows the DESIR management structure.

Work package breakdown structure

The DESIR-EQUIPEX program is divided into 7 work packages, managed by the different partners. A presentation of the different work packages was given at the DESIR-EQUIPEX kick-off meeting, held at IPN Orsay on March 29, 2013.

Timeline

The timeline of the DESIR EQUIPEX Program is displayed in Figure 2. The Program is divided in two phases, from July 2012 to December 2017 for the first one and from October 2017 to December 2019 for the second one.

The phase 1 of the DESIR EQUIPEX program consists in (July 2012 -> December 2017):

- The design study of the DESIR beam lines, including the construction and the test of a prototype section: From July 2012 to November 2014,

- the construction of the DESIR beam transport tunnels: From April 2016 to May 2017,

- The construction of the DESIR experimental hall and its basement: From September 2016 to May 2017,

- The implementation of the beam line between the S3-LEB and the DESIR experimental hall: From October 2016 to October 2017,

- The implementation of the main beam line and of the experimental setups inside the DESIR hall: From June 2016 to December 2017.

The phase 2 of the DESIR EQUIPEX program consists in (October 2017 -> December 2019):

- The commissioning of the beam line between S3-LEB and the DESIR hall: From October 2017 to April 2018,

- The commissioning of the main beam line in the DESIR experimental hall and of the experimental setups: From December 2017 to June 2018,

- The operation of the DESIR facility: From June 2018 to December 2019.
