For more than a decade, the know-how of the NEMO group in the field of very feeble radioactivities and their measurement has led to the development of unexpected applications of the techniques to nutriments as well as environmental challenges with the collaboration from other Bordeaux institutes. The very fact that the measurements are interdisciplinary of nature led in 2008-2009 to the platform project aimed at measurement of very feeble activities on the CENBG premisces.

Plateforme Régionale Interdisciplinaire de Spectrométrie Nucléaire en Aquitaine

This platform, part of the Becquerel network (a network of platforms dedicated to the measurement of radioactivity at CNRS/IN2P3), is the state-of-the art for very feeble activity levels.

At PRISNA, there are measurements made by various institutes (check for the list of laboratories implied at the bottom of this page):
- CENBG: radio-pure materials (around 10 mBq/kg) are sought of using low-background gamma spectroscopy. These materials are for the SuperNEMO demonstrator (looking up for the ββ0ν decay)
- CRP2A: chronology with paleodosimetry (optically-induced thermoluminescence, electron paramagnetic resonance) which implies gamma spectrocopy measurement of solid samples
- EPOC: study of particle transfers betzeen the continent and the oceans, by measuring sediments with the help of radioelements (210Pb, 234Th, 226Ra or 7Be)

The NEMO group from CENBG has an applied activities branch, part of the actual PRISNA-Recherche. Most noticeable aspect of this research is the datation and/or the geographical characterization of food. Some measurements of feeble radioactivity are made in collaboration with the SCL (DGCCRF, Répression des Fraudes) in Pessac, others concern the monitoring of data related to the Fukushima accident and, more recently, looking for the 210Pb/210Po activity in the environment and its possible impact on health.

Last, but not least, service-delivery activities are performed at PRISNA:
- the PRISNA-Prestations technical branch is ASN-compliant, COFRAC-accredited and ISO-certified (all details are to be found here). Its field of excellence is the measurement of very feeble radioactivities with an ultra-low background noise "broad-energy" detector. This Unit is part of the Becquerel Network, a network of platforms implied in radioactivity measurements under the auspices of CNRS/IN2P3. This means PRISNA-Prestations is best suited to respond to any request for more general study on the measurement of radioactivity in the environment.
