Mécanic department activities

2. Activités du service mécanique

2.1 Function of the Mechanical Sevice

  • Studies and manufacture of experimental materials according to a schedule of conditions establishes by the various groups of research for experiments carried out at the laboratory on the accelerator of AIFIRA, or near machines external with the center: in France or abroad.
  • Numerical simulations in mecanics and thermics.
  • Assembly and developed of the materials studied and carried out.
  • Negociation and followed completion of the sub-contracted work.
  • Maintenace, modifications or transformations of the mechanical sets of the experimental material of the center and accelerator.

2.2 Means of Mechanical Sevice

2.2.1 Engineering and Design Department

Since 2001, the engineering and design department was equipped with 5 PC which supports logician CAD Catia. Currently the 4 people of the Engineering and design department work on this software which equips all the laboratories IN2P3, thus facilitating the exchanges by projects.

We preserve however the possibility of using software EUCLID, because all the projects of 1990 to 2001 were conceived on this software.

The engineering and design department also has equipped with SAMCEF Field and SAMCEF Bacon which make it possible to carry out calculations by finite elements. One of the advantages of the SAMCEF Field is that it makes it possible to treat the geometry resulting directly from Catia.

2.2.2 Mechanical Workshop

The park machine is composed of :

  • 21 conventional machines: lathe, milling machine, drilling machine, bending machine, sand blast machine, ...
  • A centre hole to numerical control(HURCO) 3 axes
  • A boiler forge (MIG, TIG, covered electrode...)
