NEMO - Neutrino & Feeble Radioactivity Measurements

We are proud of our research member, Emmanuel CHAUVEAU, who received in Seoul a Toshiko Yuasa Laboratory - Young Investigator Award for the excellence of his contribution to double choose project while he was working at RCNS.

First SuperNEMO calorimeter wall!

The Neutrino group is involved in the NEMO3 and SuperNEMO collaborations which are looking for the neutrinoless double beta decay process ββ(0ν). The aim of these rare event experiments is to determine the mass and the nature of the neutrino.

Some applications of the low background measurements have been developed in the field of feeble radioactive emission detection, leading to the construction of the PRISNA platform at CENBG in 2009.

The NEMO3 experiment (2003-2011), using the tracko-calorimeter technique, has measured precisely the ββ(2ν) half-lives of 7 ββ isotopes and obtained the best ββ(0ν) limits for some of them. The group is especially involved in the final analysis of the ββ(0ν) process to the excited states for 100Mo and 150Nd isotopes.

Since 2005 we participate actively in the SuperNEMO project whose goal is to improve the ββ(0ν) half-life limit by a factor 100 (T1/2 >1026 y) and thus the effective neutrino mass by a factor 10 (<0.05-0.1 eV). The group is responsible of the R&D and the construction of the SuperNEMO calorimeter and is also in charge of the radiopurity measurements using low-background gamma spectrometry and alpha spectrometry for the radon.
